Half Staff Flag Orders

New Jersey Flag Status Notification - Friday, August 9, 2019, All Flags Half-Staff

Acting Governor Oliver signed Executive Order No. 77, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, August 9, 2019, to honor the life of famed New Jersey author Toni Morrison.

"Toni Morrison was a winner of the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, National Humanities Medal, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom," said Acting Governor Sheila Oliver. "Here, in New Jersey, we will remember her not only by her remarkable achievements, but also by the countless lives that she touched with her beautiful storytelling and brilliant writing. While Toni may not be with us anymore, her work will reach generations to come."

The flag of the United States of America and the flag of New Jersey shall be flown at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities during appropriate hours on Friday, August 9, 2019, in recognition and mourning of a visionary author and distinguished professor, Toni Morrison.

Tuesday, August 6, 2019, through Thursday, August 8, 2019 — All Flags Half-Staff

Acting Governor Oliver signed Executive Order No. 76, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff to honor the lives of the 31 victims of the attacks in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.

“The senseless acts of domestic terrorism in El Paso and Dayton have left us shaken yet undeterred in our resolve to end the tragedy of gun violence that plagues communities all across our nation,” said Acting Governor Sheila Oliver. “New Jersey joins the rest of our nation in mourning the 31 innocent lives cut short and, in their honor, we will lower our flags to half-mast.”

The flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of New Jersey shall be flown at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities during appropriate hours from Tuesday, August 6, 2019, through Thursday, August 8, 2019, in recognition and mourning of the passing of the victims in El Paso and Dayton.
