DOG LICENSES / RABIES VACCINATION -  New License Directions - Renewal License Directions

The State of New Jersey requires that all dogs over the age of seven (7) months be licensed and vaccinated for rabies.  Licenses may be obtained at the Municipal Building, in the Administration office.  ALL licenses MUST be renewed each year by January 31st.  In order to obtain or renew a dog license, a rabies vaccination MUST cover the full year for which the license is issued Proof of rabies must be shown with your dog license application. Your rabies certification must be valid thru at least November 1st. A $10.00 Late Fee will be charged from February 1 through February 29th.  A $20.00 Late Fee will be charged from March 1 through March 31.  Summons will be issued starting April 1st.

CAT LICENSES

At this time, there is no licensing requirement for cats in Long Hill Township.  Rabies vaccination of cats is encouraged and your cat may also attend any FREE Rabies Clinic within the State of New Jersey.  For a list of FREE Rabies Clinics in our area please check on the link below.

ANIMAL BITES

Those who have been bitten by a domestic or wild animal should seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY!  The treating healthcare provider will report the bite to the Animal Control Officer with details of the animal and the bite. The Animal Control Officer will follow-up with victim and the pet owner to ensure rabies prevention.

LEASH LAW

As per the Township’s Dog Control Ordinance, no person shall permit a dog to run at large. The Ordinance also requires that you clean up after your dog.  The Police Dept. will issue summons for these violators, which carries fines up to $50.00 plus Court costs.

STRAY DOGS OR CATS

Please contact the Long Hill Police Dept to report any stray cat or dog. If you have lost an animal, you can call the Long Hill Police Department.
